This course will help children to see what mindfulness is and how being mindful of their thoughts and emotions can help them to manage ‘big feelings’ in the future. It will help children to see that it is not unusual to be overwhelmed by an emotion, it happens to all of us, but there are things that we can do to limit the times that this happens and to recognise when their worries are getting bigger than they need to be.  

When we think about a worry that we have, we are feeding it with our thoughts, and when we feed it, it gets BIGGER! This Super 7 Mindfulness course will show children the simple science behind how their thoughts and emotions work and will give them practical things that they can do, to help them to calm their ‘big feelings’ down, and help them to see more clearly in order to make a more informed and sensible decision.  

This course recognises that big thoughts and emotions are real and should be allowed to happen, we don’t want our children to hide their worries under the carpet, or ignore them – this can damage mental wellbeing in the long run. But what we do want to teach our children to do is to be able to recognise for themselves when a worry may be getting bigger than it needs to be, and to learn practical ways that they can calm this worry down, stop feeding it with their thoughts, and therefore think more rationally about the situation that they face.  

Whilst this course is just a short super booster, over 7 days, it will provide children with lasting knowledge and practical things that they can use when they feel those pesky worries wanting to take over!

Kate is a qualified Primary School teacher, Mindfulness and Neuro-Linguistic Practitioner as well as an Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner, trained in Understanding Mental Health, Understanding Autism, Challenging Behaviour, Life Coaching and a Growth Mindset advocate with over 20 years’ experience working within the education and training sector. 

Being a teacher has allowed me to recognise where I believe there are gaps in the development of children and this has led me down the much rewarding path of mental health. I have always been really interested in why some children and adults achieve and why others don’t and all of my wonderings have been answered when I look at mental health, self-esteem, growth mindset and mindfulness. My passion for mental health has led to me teaching Life Coaching skills and understanding that if we can work on changing our thoughts then we really can change our lives. And yes, our thoughts and life outlook can be changed!
